Location
A playground of truly varied terrain – this is where your base at Javea truly excels.
Within a single ride you can experience anything from the flatter coastal roads, perhaps taking in the local orange groves, perfect for easy days and recovery spins, or test yourself through the rolling hills of the inland Jalon Valley, perfect for building strength and stamina.
If its epic mountain climbs you want to experience, the area is packed with legendary ascents
- the Coll de Rates is arguably the most famous Vuelta-stature climb in the region, rising 350m through its 6.5km, this manageable gradient hugs the northern edge of the Coll for most of the route, delivering plenty of stunning scenery and makes the equally legendary apple strudel at the summit restaurant well worth the effort!
- the shorter (and some would say more brutal) steep gradients of Cumbre del Sol is also on the doorstep just a short ride out of Javea. With gradients reaching 19% you can emulate the most recent Vuelta stage winning feats of Tom Dumoulin and Chris Froome.
- the winding ascent of Vall d’Ebo, north and inland from Javea, offers breathtaking views and a challenging steady test that fully rewards your effort as your ride through landscape that transforms from pine tree-lined gradual gradients to a sequence of exposed, serpentine-like and dizzying hairpins.
- Alto de Aitana is the largest climb reachable within a day’s round-trip from Javea. Expect to be in the saddle for almost 150km and you will clock-up over 2500m of gradient. Castell de Guadalest offers a slightly closer alternative, offering a great “up and back” route to its beautiful hill-top castle.
