The Perfect 7-Day Costa Blanca Road Cycling Itinerary
A sample week from Jávea that combines Coll de Rates, Bèrnia, Vall d’Ebo, local roads, recovery and enough flexibility to keep the riding enjoyable.
Seven days gives you enough time to ride some of the Costa Blanca’s memorable roads without turning the holiday into seven consecutive days of fatigue. The key is rhythm: ride hard, recover, explore, then go hard again.
A balanced seven-day road cycling itinerary from Jávea
Jávea, Montgó and a bike check
Keep the first ride controlled. Use local roads to check position, tyres, gearing and legs after travel. Finish wanting more.
Coll de Rates and the Vall de Pop
Now the trip starts properly. Build a classic route through the inland valleys and use Coll de Rates as the first benchmark climb.
Route guide →Recovery ride and coffee
Do less. Keep the pace conversational, stay closer to Jávea and give the legs a chance to absorb the previous day.
Vall d’Ebo and, if appropriate, El Miserat
This is one of the big days. Vall d’Ebo creates a long mountain ride; El Miserat should only be added if the group has the fitness and legs for it.
Mountain guide →Easy day or full day off
Go to the beach, explore Jávea, have lunch or take a very easy spin. A day off often makes Day 6 much better.
Bèrnia and the southern roads
Head south through Benissa, Xaló and the roads around Sierra de Bèrnia. The route can be adjusted depending on how the week has gone.
Final café ride
Finish with something enjoyable rather than heroic. A shorter coastal or local ride leaves a much better final memory than emptying the tank before travelling home.
Adapt the week to your normal training
A rider who normally rides 100 km per week should not copy the schedule of somebody who regularly rides 350. Costa Blanca kilometres can accumulate climbing surprisingly quickly.
Both can work.
Many riders like to use a local guide early in the week, learn how the road network fits together, then use GPX routes on later days. Others prefer a guide throughout so navigation, café stops and route changes are handled for them.
This is a framework, not a compulsory programme.
Your ideal week might contain more climbing, fewer kilometres, a full rest day, two route options for different riders or more time with a non-cycling partner. That is exactly why Never Just a Ride builds the week around the people travelling.
Questions riders often ask
How many days should I cycle on a seven-day Costa Blanca trip?
There is no fixed number. Many riders enjoy five or six cycling days with one or two easier or non-riding days.
Can Coll de Rates and Bèrnia be ridden in the same week?
Yes. They can be separate days or combined by stronger riders depending on the route and the group.
Should I ride Vall d’Ebo and El Miserat on consecutive hard days?
Usually it is better to place recovery before or after a demanding inland mountain day so the quality of the rest of the week stays high.
Can the itinerary be adjusted for a mixed-ability group?
Yes. Distances, climbing and route options can be changed to suit different riders.
Build the week around the riders, not a template.
Tell Andy and Weronika your dates, group size, normal ride distance and how much climbing you enjoy. Never Just a Ride can shape the routes, accommodation and support around your group.
